A 1KD engine for sale is one of the most common things people ask us about, and it makes sense. The 1KD-FTV is the 3.0 litre turbo diesel that powers a huge number of Toyota Hilux, Land Cruiser Prado, Hiace and Fortuner vehicles. When one of them needs an engine, owners want the same motor back in, not a compromise.

We sell the 1KD in four conditions, so you can match the engine to the value of your vehicle. Pick the one that suits you from the options above.

Which 1KD engine for sale is right for you

New: for a vehicle you plan to keep a long time, or a fleet truck that has to work every day.
20,000 km: low use, close to new, for a lot less money.
45,000 km: the middle ground most private owners go for.
80,000 km: the budget choice for an older work vehicle or a farm truck.

Not sure? Tell us the vehicle, the year and what happened to the old engine. We will tell you honestly which one makes sense.

1KD-FTV specifications

Displacement: 2,982 cc (3.0L)
Layout: inline 4-cylinder diesel
Bore x stroke: 96 x 103 mm
Compression ratio: 17.9:1
Valvetrain: DOHC, 16 valves
Fuel system: common rail direct injection (D-4D)
Turbo: variable nozzle turbocharger with intercooler
Power: about 127 kW (170 hp) in most markets

Toyota built the engine from 2000 onwards and fitted it to the Land Cruiser Prado, Hilux, Hilux Surf, Hiace, Fortuner, Dyna and Toyoace, plus the Hino Dutro. The Toyota KD engine page lists the different outputs by year and market if you want to double check yours.

Things to sort before fitting a 1KD engine

Most 1KD problems we hear about come back to fuel quality and injector health. If the old engine died because of a failed injector or a melted piston, find out why before the new one goes in. A blocked fuel filter or bad diesel will do the same thing to the replacement.

Fit new injector seals and check the injectors themselves.
Replace the fuel filter and clean the tank if you had contaminated fuel.
Check the intercooler and pipes for oil and the EGR for heavy carbon.
Use the right grade of oil and change it on time.

If your vehicle runs the smaller petrol option, we also sell the 2TR engine. For older trucks there is the 1KZ engine and the 5L engine, and for bigger Land Cruisers the 1HD-FTE and 1VD-FTV.

Gearboxes to go with your 1KD engine for sale

If the transmission is also worn, it is often cheaper to do both at once. We carry a Hilux and Fortuner gearbox and a Hilux, Hiace and Prado transmission. Our post on reliable engines and transmissions for your next repair explains when it makes sense to replace both.

1KD engine for sale: common questions

Does the 1KD engine for sale come with injectors?

Ask us about the specific unit. Some come complete with injectors and pump, others as a long block, and the price reflects that.

Will a 1KD engine fit my older Hilux?

Only if it came with the 1KD-FTV from the factory, or with extra work on wiring and the ECU. Send us the chassis number and we will check.

How fast can you ship a 1KD engine for sale abroad?

Most orders leave us within a few business days of payment. Sea freight time depends on where you are.

Pick your condition at the top of the page and order the 1KD engine for sale that suits your budget.
