Technological Innovations

The G4NH engine uses several significant technologies to achieve maximum performance and efficiency:

Atkinson Cycle Operation: This thermodynamic cycle achieves optimum fuel efficiency through provision of a longer expansion stroke, which improves thermal efficiency and reduces fuel consumption.
Direct Fuel Injection: Through direct fuel delivery to the combustion chamber, this system ensures precise fuel metering, leading to improved combustion control, improved power output, and reduced emissions.
Variable Valve Timing (VVT): VVT adjusts valve opening and closing timing to optimize engine performance at different levels of RPM, delivering increased power output with better fuel efficiency.

Applications

G4NH engines are used in a variety of Hyundai and Kia models, including:

Hyundai Models:

Elantra (2017–2020)
Kona (2017–2020)
Tucson (2017–2021)
Veloster (2018–2021)

Kia Models:

Cerato (2018–present)
Seltos (2019–present)
Soul (2019–present)

Performance and Efficiency

The G4NH engine offers a superior power and fuel efficiency. Under normal driving, vehicles fitted with this engine experience the following fuel consumptions:

City Driving: Approximately 8.8 liters per 100 km
Highway Driving: Approximately 5.6 liters per 100 km
Combined Cycle: Approximately 6.8 liters per 100 km

Maintenance Facets

Regular maintenance is necessary to ensure durability as well as optimal performance for the G4NH engine. The most important facets of maintenance are:

Oil Changes: Using the accepted 5W-30 viscosity oil and adhering to the service interval advised by the manufacturer matters to the long life of the engine.
Timing Chain Inspection: It is advisable to have timely inspection to prevent future issues as some users experienced problems relating to the timing chain.
Cooling System Maintenance: A functional cooling system is extremely crucial as there have been some rare instances of engine overheat due to defective thermostat.

Advantages

Fuel Efficiency: Operation of Atkinson cycle accompanied by high-performance fuel injection equipment reduces fuel intake, making it a cost-saving city commuting method.
Environmental Impact: Lower emissions aligns with global environmental initiatives towards emission reduction of motor vehicles, making the G4NH engine a clean solution.
Performance: The engine offers adequate power for both city and highway driving with a responsive driving experience.

Potential Drawbacks

Complexity: Installation of advanced technologies combined can lead to increased repair bills upon component breakdown.
Oil Consumption: Higher oil consumption has also been noted by owners, with increased oil checks and refilling.

Conclusion

The Hyundai G4NH engine sings the praises of Hyundai’s brilliance by delivering a mix of performance, effectiveness, and environmentally friendliness. Despite having some maintenance issues, its benefits make it a top choice among small SUVs. Buyers should consider these against the opinions of existing owners and car reviewers.
